70% of our skin is water

We talk a lot about hydration and how important it is to keep the skin with good water levels so that it does not become dehydrated and the skin barrier, which is so important for our protection, remains strong and intact. And why is that?

Did you know that 70% of our body is made up of water, but that percentage decreases throughout life? In an adult, for example, it reaches 65% and, in the elderly, it can reach 50%.

Normal skin, for example, needs to have a balance between water absorption and loss. There are some main elements, which are responsible for assisting in this regulation, such as NMF (Natural Skin Hydration Factors), aquaporins and the stratum corneum, the last layer of the skin.

Basically, the balance between these factors regulates the level of water in the skin. The cutaneous hydro-regulation process is something that involves the whole body and is also influenced by environmental factors. It is a natural process, although complex, carried out by our body.

Transepidermal Water Loss (PTA)

The skin is responsible for facilitating water exchange with the environment. It goes from the dermis to the surface and evaporates. This process is calledTransepidermal Water Loss (PTA).

What does water do for our skin?

PTA has a lot to do with the skin barrier, an ultra-thin film formed by lipids, which prevents excessive water loss. If this barrier is damaged (whether by using very hot water, exposure to the sun, very aggressive face cleaning products...), the speed of this loss of water to the environment increases.

In other words, water and the skin barrier have everything to do with each other. It is necessary tokeep this hydrolipidic mantle intact so that it does not evaporate too quickly into the environment.

Skin barrier x lipid barrier: what's the difference?

The best way to keep this barrier healthy is to have a balanced skincare routine. Use a cleansing agent that is suitable for your skin, which will not overdry or attack, in addition to maintaining a frequent hydration routine, with a suitable moisturizer.

What is skin hydration?

Hydration is nothing more than the replacement or retention of water molecules in the body. It can be done by drinking water or, of course, by using moisturizers. Thus, your skin becomes softer, protected and resistant.

Why moisturize the skin?

Hydration is one of the things that keeps the skin's protective barrier intact. She returns to the skin exactly the assets that are lost when the barrier is damaged.

Most moisturizers, which we say are barrier repair moisturizers, have the assets that the skin naturally has and ends up losing. So, some essential fatty acids, ceramides, b-panthenol, hyaluronic acid. These assets that the skin loses and we were able to restore it with adequate hydration, leaving the skin balanced again. Hydration is the basis

One of the first things we lose on a daily basis is precisely hydration, both due to environmental factors (heat, wind, sun, pollution), and the use of very astringent, abrasive or drying cosmetics, that end up dehydrating the skin more easily.

The face is the part of the body that is in contact with the external environment, without protection. The skin of the face, neck, décolletage and hands are the ones that need hydration the most, since we need to protect them from external factors, such as ultraviolet radiation, pollution and the low relative humidity of the air.

What happens if you don't moisturize?

Skin that doesn't retain or replenish its water molecules presents some problems that no one wants to have. It becomes more sensitive, susceptible to flaking and with greater sensitivity, which can lead to the worsening of pre-existing diseases or the appearance of skin lesions.

Why is it so important to moisturize your skin before makeup

When we do not hydrate, the skin ends up losing its protective barrier, becoming much more sensitive to ultraviolet radiation, causing it to “burn” more easily, for example. In addition, she is also more exposed to pollutants, contributing to premature aging.

Ah, it's worth remembering: cold and dry weather, sun exposure, too hot water in the bath and even some medications can lead to dehydration of the skin. Therefore, redoubled attention! Also use tools to help you keep your skin clean and free of dirt and oil, like theUltrasonic Facial Cleanser

Hydration from the inside out!

We have already seen here that a consumption oftwo liters of water a day helps us to have an organism that works with much more energy and vigor. In addition, our skin appreciates it and reflects its effects with greater elasticity and vigor. But only the correct consumption of water a day is not enough to have beautiful pores.

Good hydration must be done inside and out. That means: two liters of water a day and the routine use of specific dermocosmetics [for each skin type] to hydrate the skin.

Sleeping helps balance skin hydration

It's the truth! We've already told you here that that beauty sleep story is very real.

It is during the night that the cells are renewed, organize their functions, repair and balance the damage caused by external aggressions that occur during the day. Sleep brings enormous benefits to health, including that of the skin.

How to apply?

The ideal is to follow a movement from the inside out on the face and from the bottom up on the neck.

If you have a basic routine, it comes in after the cleanup step. Then, don't forget to apply sunscreen.

In which order to apply skincare products to the face?

Now, if you already use different products in your routine, that texture rule is worth it. To record skincare order: liquid, serum, gel, creamy lotion/cream. Always starting with cleaning the skin and ending with protection from the sun's rays. Translating into steps, it always looks like this: cleaning, treatment, hydration and protection.

Already translating into products, it is: cleanser, tonic, serum, eye cream, localized treatments, moisturizer, oil (if you use it). And finally, sunscreen.

Also remember to always listen to your dermatologist's guidance, okay?
